Keep your device in tip-top condition

Prolong your device lifespan

Our phones are lasting longer. Here’s how to make sure your phone stays in good shape over the years.

Our devices are lasting longer these days, and with big names like Apple and Samsung promising years of OS upgrades.

Instead of spending money on a new device every year or two, follow these tips to protect your phone and keep it running smoothly.

Shield your screen

A broken screen can make your phone impossible to use. We recommend buying a tempered glass screen protector, which will dramatically reduce the risk of ending up with a smashed screen.

There are many different screen protectors on the market. If you have a phone with a fully flat screen, like an iPhone 11, getting a tempered glass protector shouldn’t be an issue.

If your screen is curved, like the Samsung Note 20, take extra care to scour the market for a screen protector that provides full, curved coverage.

Put a case on it

Now that your screen is protected, it’s time to protect the rest of your device. Using a sturdy case will give you the best chance of steering clear of an expensive mishap.

Just like screen protectors, there are lots of different options to choose from depending on your phone and lifestyle.

For example, if you’re in a line of work where you are potentially putting your phone in peril (like someone who works outdoors), then investing in a heavy-duty case like an OtterBox is a good idea.

Give it a break

Many people go weeks without turning their phones off. However, turning it off for an hour or two at least once a week will help it to run more efficiently and extend the life of your battery.

This simple trick is also a mainstay fix for many minor technical issues you could be having.

Whenever you notice your phone acting strangely, or not working the way it should, your first port-of-call should be to turn it off, then turn it back on again.

Look after your battery

First and foremost, always use the charger and cable that came with your device—doing otherwise can damage your battery.

You should also generally keep your battery above 20% instead of letting it drain completely before charging it.

Most models of phones also have in-built settings in the power options to help you more efficiently manage battery use, and extend the life of your battery.
